Update on Quynh Anh and her ribcage surgery!

Thanks to a large donation from one of our sponsors, Ms. Annie, on September 20th, Quynh Anh was checked in to the hospital to have the surgery on her ribcage. According to the doctor, the surgery went well and her breastbone was adjusted with a lift-bar to make a new bone frame. This will stop the life-threatening condition which eventually would have prevented her from breathing. Quynh Anh will need another surgery to remove the lift-bar in her chest 3 years from now after she grows and develops in size.

After the surgery, Quynh Anh's chest was bandaged. The bandage was changed everyday and she received some medicine. The operation made Quynh Anh feel tired and she was in a lot of pain after the surgery. She ate very little, often, nothing more than some milk. According to the doctor, Quynh Anh needs to be put on a good regimen of adequate food and good care to recover her health. However, since the family is extremely poor and has huge debts from previous treatments for Quynh Anh, they have no money to afford a good regimen of proper nutrition. Luckily, with the generous donation from Ms. Annie, Quynh Anh received good care while she was in the hospital. And, she will continue to receive support for proper nutrition now that she’s returned to her home to recover.

Quynh Anh stayed in the hospital for nearly 2 weeks receiving post-operative care and treatment from the doctors and nurses. After that time, the doctor decided she was well enough for her mother to take her home from the hospital on October 4th. She was given some medications to take at home and she will come back for a check-up in three months.

On the day Quynh Anh left the hospital, her mother was moved to tears for receiving this life-saving help from HSCV and the sponsors. She would like to send a heartfelt thanks and a big hug from her and her family to all the sponsors.

HSCV is very happy that we, through our sponsors, were able to provide the funds for this life-saving surgery which will give Quynh Anh a chance to live and grow into a healthy adult. We would like to thank all of you very much, especially for the great support from Ms. Annie for Quynh Anh and all the other Vietnamese children in need.
