I was very impressed with one family in particular. All the members of the family try their best to work hard and take full advantage of HSCV’s donations of rice and scholarship to overcome their daily difficulties. They strive to reach a better life; however, they are still faced with many challenges.
The father is mentally handicapped and frequently needs to be sent to the hospital for treatment. To do this, costs quite a lot of money for them. The mother works very hard as a farmer to support the family. However, all of her efforts are not enough for pay for daily expenses, hospital fees for the father, and the children’s additional education expenses. Luckily for them, HSCV met with them and has been sponsoring them with both rice and scholarship since late 2004. Thanks to HSCV’s donations, they have enough rice to eat and the children are able to continue going to school.
As proof of overcoming their difficulties, two of their children, named Nguyen Dang Thiem and Nguyen Dang Kien, are still the best students at the school. Thiem is now taking the entrance exam at Hanoi Open University. He hopes to study Information Technology (IT). His future goal is to get a good job so he can help to support his parents and make their life easier. He said with a hopeful voice, “I have been trying to study as best I can to be a good student to better help my future. I really wish to have a good job so I can help my parents in the future. My mother is suffering from so many difficulties and I know that she does her best just for my brother and me. I really love her and feel sorry for her. I really want to do something to make her happy. I will do my best to pass the entrance exam of the University during this summer!”
Kien, his brother, said that he is also doing his best to be a good student.
I really admire these two children. During the summer vacation, they are helping their mother by doing handicraft jobs at home to get about $1 per day.
HSCV is committed to supporting Thiem in his post high school aspiration. We all hope that Thiem will pass his examination and that his dream will come true.
This family is one of many that HSCV supports who are overcoming their poverty with over time with our help. We are happy that our assistance programs have been critical in helping them and that ultimately, the children will have a better life in the future.
