Help HSCV and CardioStart save lives

Did you know that one in everyone hundred children worldwide is born with Congenital Heart Disease? This common birth defect affects the heart’s ability to pump oxygen into the blood stream and can lead to serious complications. Most heart defects are treatable through surgery, however; if left untreated one third will die before their first birthday.

In Vietnam alone, more then 20,000 patients are waiting for pediatric Cardiac treatment. There are simply not enough trained medics and facilities needed to cope with the demand. Presently only 10% of children with heart defects are receiving the surgery they need to live a healthy life. Those living in the countryside find it impossible to even reach appropriate medical facilities.

Cardiostart International ( www.cardiostart.org ), alongside HSCV, are looking to turn the tide by visiting Hospitals in Vietnam and helping the local Doctors enhance their knowledge and programs. In November of 2009, a Cardiostart team will travel to Viet Duc Hospital to provide technical assistance and resources. In addition, along side local doctors, they will also perform several surgeries for children in need. It is only through this sharing of knowledge that Vietnam can begin to turn a story of lost life and opportunity into one of success and hope.
