Warm hearts changed the life

Today, it is almost 2 years after the surgery; I had an opportunity to visit Vu a heart patient in Ha Nam province. I brought a gift from 2 sponsors -friends, Reed and Ann Franklin. I know I waited for this trip so I am very excited.

Vu had his surgery in 2009 with the help of the Cardio-Start doctors. The performance took from 7am to 7pm and successful. Vu received a human valve from deceased American. This was a first surgery of Human Tissue Valve replacement in Vietnam.

Vu was born in a large family with 5 siblings. His father – Mr. Luu is a veteran, he joined in the army from 1970 to 1975 in Da Nang, Quang Nam and then from 1978 to 1983 in Lang Son. While in the Fierce battle he was severely wounded with a skull injury, burned buttocks, cut right and left thighs. Luu lost 65% of his health and right now, a bullet is still in his body. While the man was in the war, his wife stayed at home. Vu’s mother had raised 5 children alone. They are very poor and she worked very hard on the farm. All five children got infected with Agent Orange, and one of them passed away. They thought they lost Vu but luckily, the heart surgery saved him. Now Vu is very happy with his heart.

He got married with a beautiful wife last year, and they will have a baby very soon in June. He put on weight, now he is 56 kg. He opened a shop to repair motorbike, and his wife works as a tailor. They have a simple life but a happy one.

They were very moved when I gave them the donation. Moreover, this was a gift of an American soldier who was on opposite fighting- line side during the war. Mr. Luu said that he would spend part of the money to buy a small crystal heart that he will keep as a symbol of love, strength and generosity. But he will never forget the live symbol that is beating in his son’s chest. War and heart are the unending stories but right now, I can see how Vu is happy with his new life. I would like to send a special thanks to all of the sponsors and doctors with warm hearts that change our lives forever.
